Rocklin Board Contracts With Out Of State Lawyers

At the May 15th 2024 meeting, the School Board approved a contract with an out-of-state law firm to continue fighting the state about the board majority’s Gender Notification Policy. The district assured us at a previous meeting that the Legal Services budget was not a problem, however we’ve now spent district time and resources seeking out a conservative, right-wing law firm in Chicago to help the board fight against the rights of our kids here in California.

How’s that for local control?

One of the huge concerns about this, notwithstanding the obvious political influence, is that the district will be on the hook for the legal costs of the state when they lose the lawsuit. This is directly opposed to the board majority’s stated intent of making every dollar count.

This firm is not working out of the goodness of their hearts - their goal is to get big splashy headlines, and to do that they need cases to be filed. They can say it’s “free” all they want, but it is Rocklin citizens who will pay a hefty price for these actions. No matter the outcome, this is already a stain on a great school district which will bring home prices down as potential new residents choose districts that are not at war with its teachers, students, and residents.

The people at this law firm don’t know our kids, they don’t care about our schools, they only want a chance to get themselves in the news and force their worldview on the rest of the community.

Does that sound like any school board members you know?
