Rocklin Teacher Punished For Showing the News

In October 2022, a Rocklin middle school teacher had her students summarize a news clip as she had many times before. What she didn’t realize is that she would soon be harassed by an irate, politically-charged parent. Josh Nagelmann, a resident of Rocklin, wrote to her “If you brainwash our children anymore with this propaganda you will be held liable in court.” After being reassured by Granite Oaks principal Jay Holmes that she did nothing wrong, it just got worse.

During the Rocklin Unified school board meeting on Oct. 20, Nagelmann singled out the teacher by name, violating a district policy that bans members of the public from identifying staff members for safety and privacy reasons. Members of the board’s did not reprimand him or cut him off, almost certainly because they agreed with his political opinions. He closed by threatening members of the school board. “If you guys push this vaccine, … you better watch out,” Nagelmann said.

The next day, Superintendent Roger Stock “apologized on behalf of the board and says he’s so sorry, they should’ve stopped the meeting.” As usual, Superintendent Stock is a day late and a dollar short when it comes to supporting our teachers, students, and district.
